Wahl Professional 8110 5-star Series Balding Clipper Review

I’ve had trimmer’s by Wahl in the past with generally above average results, so for a really close shave on my head, I decided to invest in the Wahl Professional 8110 5-star Series Balding Clipper. If you’re like me, you probably get sick of using a regular razor blade on your head and suffering the irritation that comes with it, even if it does give the best results. I’ve used regular electric trimmers on my head before, on their lowest length setting, but it was never close enough. Being advertised as a balding clipper, I had high hopes for this one.

And overall, I love it! It’s definitely lived up to expectations. It’s a gorgeous looking design and the build quality is fantastic. It has a nice powerful motor which isn’t too loud, and you generally get a good sense of quality when you have this trimmer in your hand.

In terms of cut, it’s the best I’ve ever experienced from an electric clipper. The cut is extremely close and satisfactory by my standards. It’s not “razor close”, so don’t expect that, but it cuts down to about 1 day’s worth of growth. For the general speed and ease of use, that is fine by me. With the help of my wife, my head can be trimmed in about 5 minutes, so very quick.

If you’re wanting the skin close results that a razor blade can give you then the 8110 is may be not quite what you’re after, but then no electric razor can get quite that close. The upshot is the speed in which you can cut your hair, but also the lack of irritation. The 8110 glides over my head smoothly and comfortably.

The only thing I don’t like about the 8110 is that it would perhaps be better if it was cordless, or if the cable was at least a bit longer. This isn’t a big issue at all but something that would make it even better.

Overall, the 8110 is a top quality product at a great price. I’ve seen clippers for double the price of this and I don’t see how they can be better in terms of quality and general use. I’m highly impressed by what Wahl have produced here and definitely recommend these clippers.
